new approach for approximation of dispersivity in porous media
Authors
abstract
this paper presents a simple yet powerful original approach for approximating dispersivity in porous media. the key to this approach is both use of least-squares criterion and image processing technique. two dimensional transparent models, including horizontal and vertical configurations, under different combinations of grain sizes and pore velocities, experimented. concentration data were obtained on a 0.5×0.5 mm grid, which represents approximately 1.8×105 measuring points. estimates of the longitudinal and transverse dispersivity are obtained for each experiment in three time step, and discussed. acquired results revealed that presented procedure successfully determine dispersivity coefficients and the maximum error of estimation is 4 to 7%. furthermore, calculated disperssivity varied from 0.001 to 0.003 m corresponding to grain sizes that agree with literature.

full textA New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media
Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

Dispersion and Dispersivity Tensors in Saturated Porous Media with Uniaxial Symmetry
The coefficients of dispersion, Dij , and the dispersivity, aijkl , appear in the expression for the flux of a solute in saturated flow through porous media. We present a detailed analysis of these tensors in an axially symmetric porous medium and show that in such a medium, the dispersivity is governed by 6 independent moduli. We present also the constraints that have to be satisfied by these ...

The mathematical model developed in this work can be used in the context of the industrial or accidental pollution of a soil with a liquid volatile organic pollutant. A relevant question for determining a possible remediation senarii is the ability to haracterize the level of the pollution in a short time. In this study, we consider a simple mathematical model for the rate limited mass transfer...
